| 642572 | 2008-02-22 02:22:00 | Hell, you must be having a bad day! A group I once worked with, used to say it was better to hear that and smile, than be bitched at. No, I never have a bad day because I make up my mind what type of a day I am going to have but I intensely dislike being told to "have a good day." I do agree. Anything is better than being bitched at. Some, I notice, have bitching down to a fine art. Best to walk away from those types! I have worked with the public for many years and I come across the happy and the grumpy. I have noticed that the grumps are pretty good at passing their grumps onto most people, but in that instance as well, I will not be influenced by any old grump, either. I know that in most cases, people say, "You have a nice day," parrot fashion with the best of intentions but that does not make me like it. My point is that it is my choice as to how I feel and what sort of day I am going to have. I know that, "good-bye" is very 20th century but a phrase that I much prefer. It says just what you mean without pushing your will on others.:) |

| 642573 | 2008-02-22 03:34:00 | Just a small point: Cliché is pronounced the way it is because it has an accent on the "é" and should be written with that accent. Same as café (both French words.) I am aware of that, was a bit strapped for time, and couldn't be bothered copying your text. I'm sure everyone knows what I was talking about, and I am also aware that the pronunciation of the word cliché is not right without the é. ;) |

But you're correct, they are, unfortunately, a part of everyday and yes, there is not too much you can do about it. It seems to become a habit to many people. Just a small point: Cliché is pronounced the way it is because it has an accent on the "é" and should be written with that accent. Same as café (both French words.) Pctek: I go along with you. I too, dislike them and try very hard to keep them out of my discourse. The one that annoys me most is being told, "You have a good (or nice) day." That's my choice. I'll have a good day if I want to and I don't need you to tell me what sort of a day I'll have. That's my choice.:waughh: Roscoe, I do not like to tell you this but the day YOU have is sometimes influenced by events which are not in your control. Almost certainly no person wanders off to sleep at night or whenever and thinks I will HAVE a bad day tomorrow unless that person has knowledge of the event(s) that will happen next day. For example a court decision that may or may not go in your favour and your lawyer has told you that you could lose. On the other hand you could get a phone call from a person mentioning the fact that a person you knew as a friend just died in a car accident. Would that help YOU to have a good day? I sometimes like to say, "You have the sort of day you deserve." That comment may put some people of their step as it may appear to be cutting or sarcastic which it probably is Another one I use from time to time when buying my usual packet of fags and some coke to go with the rum = $16.20 and I use:- "1620 was a very good year and I remember it well." I will have to knock off the coke when the prices go up and buy Whiskey instead in which case I can pour this over ice cubes. |

I sometimes like to say, "You have the sort of day you deserve." . Unfortunately you are correct, but I am in control of the part that I can control and refuse to allow other people to influence the way I feel at any time. And your little saying is spot on - that you do. So make it a good day!  |

I must admit when I hear "There ya go" that I think...where am I going? Cheers, Marnie Wow Marnie, Reminds me of my Brother. When I was in my teens my younger brother had this thing about there goes a house or a mouse. Sitting around the dinner table my brother commented there goes a hole in my potato. Dad asked, "Where is it going?" Brother answered, "Through the potato." First time I saw my Father lost for words. The English language contains words from other Nations as I am reasonably sure you know. But the Kiwi languange is different as it contains words like Iwi, Whanau and the like. But the English (UK) is not logical. The plural of house is houses and the plural of mouse is mice. |

You have taken the time to complain about others. Some people are taught when they work at certain companies to say "XYZ or ZYX." as the case may be. I hope the next time you meet a check out operater you will not kill him/her. |
