2008-02-21 03:26:00 | Was watching a documentary on 080808 in Beijing and one of the preparations was to eliminate the legendary Beijing smog before the event . Sounds to me to be a rather difficult task when in the same documentary they said that the Chinese put 40,000 more cars on the road each day! Personal note, Joe: Wondered where you picked up your name from? There was a surfing instrumental some years back called, "Pipeline" played by The Chantays . On the b side was a tune called "Surfer Joe . " Was that your inspiration, perhaps? Surfer Joe ( . instromania . net/PHO/Pochettes/S/surfaris%20-%20Wipe%20Out%20-%20Surfer%20Joe . jpg" target="_blank">www . instromania . net) was a big hit in SoCal where I was living then . . . and still do by the way . . . but my real first name is "Joe" and I used to surf with the likes of Corky Carroll in Huntington Beach ( . google . com/imgres?imgurl=http://www . redwagonteam . com/files/008 . jpg&imgrefurl=http://www . redwagonteam . com/Huntington_Beach_real_estate . htm&h=443&w=640&sz=48&hl=en&start=19&tbnid=L8U4Sm9YSIsxXM:&tbnh=95&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3DHuntington%2Bbeach%2B%26gbv%3D2%26hl%" target="_blank">images . google . com 3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg . mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG) during my high school days . I got fair at surfing . . . not championship . . . but I could walk and hang . . and I was a "goofey-footer" or led with my left foot . Got to surf in Honolulu . . . chickened out at the Pipeline ( . visionforum . com/hottopics/blogs/dwp/2006-02-22_surf2 . jpg" target="_blank">www . visionforum . com) and lived to tell about it another day . I loved to get the Winter swells in the "Wedge" in Newport Beach where you can get killed in 50 feet either being pounded on the bottom if you don't pull out fast enough or sliced-n-diced on the rocks . Here's a pix of the Wedge: . surfline . com/reports/report_travel . cfm?id=4227" target="_blank">www . surfline . com . . . . . and here's Corkey: (second article down the page): . google . com/imgres?imgurl=http://beach . freedomblogging . com/files/2007/06/corky3 . jpg&imgrefurl=http://beach . freedomblogging . com/2007/06/&h=407&w=542&sz=26&hl=en&start=7&tbnid=qY1jYQZ_7acgNM:&tbnh=99&tbnw=132&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcorky%2Bcarrol%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26" target="_blank">images . google . com safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg . mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG

So I take it from that that you are a young lad - at heart at least! Love the shot of Huntington Beach. I enjoy pics showing the wind blowing spray off the tops of the waves but have never see one quite like that up close. Fantastic! Nice to know that I was right about the tune, but it was only "Pipeline" that was a hit here. Thanks for that, Joe. Most interesting. |

2008-02-21 07:41:00 | The chinese beach pics aren't as gross as that Japanese wave pool (www.youtube.com) (56K (www.imagef1.net.nz)) IMO. That'll be soup in there. | sal (67) | |
2008-02-21 07:51:00 | Australia's 7,617,930 square kilometres (2,941,299 sq. mi) landmass Est. Population by 2008 21,197,569 China had almost no cars up until recently. But with more independance they are buying up cars and the roading infrastructure is not coping well at all. Recent documentary on people in china getting their first car and the process they have to go through to get one, then the issues driving anywhere once they have it.

2008-02-21 08:29:00 | NZ Population = 4,258,682 270,534 sq km (104,454 sq miles) Population Density = 14.8 per sq km I vote for Canada. You need to give the figures in density per sq mile to compare with Surfer Joe's, because as we all know the USA is the world's most advanced country yet still uses feet and inches ! (but they did shoot down a satellite !) Regards Digby
