641727 2008-02-23 01:00:00 I think you are a bit tough. What they have had to do is to make compromises. It is an essential part of reaching the mass of people of who not have time or make time for all the intricacies that many of our members learn. It is the same, for instance, with cameras. The majority of people are happy with point and shoot, and the camera people compromise with the lower end of cameras with shutter speed and aperture etc on the default settings. The means, I think, that you end up with pictures that tend to be too sharply defined, but if the majority are happy then the camera people have got it right.

Indeed the operating systems tend to have too many options for Fred Dagg, Trevor and Trevor, but that is what people tend to be happy with and not complain about.
Misty :2cents: :) :)
You don't need to make "usability compromises" when designing a system or device in order to make it simple to use. You just have to do it properly. The only time you need to make compromises is when your trying to throw everything and the kitchen sink in to the mix and then push it out the door inside a "tight" deadline.

Give any person too many options and they will get confused, or course the most ironic thing is that they end up just picking one option from the x number available. Why not just give them the one option that works properly and save them the hassle of getting confused - the tech literate are going to sort themselves out regardless.

Here's a scary thought, Cicero, I was probably only ten kilometres from you late Jan/early Feb when we visited near Ashley. Did not realise at the time how close Swannanoa was (and still not too sure) ;)

641734 2008-02-23 04:53:00 Anything that feels it needs to be called a "programme" is automatically on the slippery slope here.
And the more it is advertised, the less likely it is to merit attention.
