Councils need to do more infrastructure-wise to make it a safe-viable option. Also, public transport could do with a bigger boost. If more car-parks in town centre's were cut during weekdays in order to make clear bus lanes then perhaps people would be discouraged from driving in each day. As there's really no need for most office workers. Just plain lazy. Like I said before, driving is a luxury. But not a very fun one in the normal course of things. | Thebananamonkey (7741) | ||

But not a very fun one in the normal course of things. if auckland wasn't so spread out i'd agree with you infact, i do think alot of car drivers should be carpooling or using the bus or on motorbikes - make better drivers, make the cagers more aware of bikes, greatly reduce conjestion and parking issues, and for anyone who finds the bus/walk/cycle practical, a motorbike (cheaper than bus and more convienient) is a better option my mate lives 40minutes jog/fast walk from work to walk to the bus stop, wait for bus, walk from bus stop it takes 50 minutes and costs $1.40 to take his bike it takes 10-15 minutes (in heavy traffic, without much lanesplitting), free parking and less than $0.50 in petrol (he has a big bike). puts his helmet/jacket under his desk. for my morning commute alone, i save about an hour and $5 taking the bike rather than bus/car/train (and that's not counting parking for the car) |

| 641498 | 2008-02-22 00:18:00 | Just out of interest, has anyone ever seen a car being pulled over for going too slow in a 100k zone? Where we live (admittedly a rural are) we are constantly frustrated by people doing 80-90k with 30 or so car's backed up behind. There are few passing areas and the frustration just makes poeple do extremely dangerous passing manouveres. I have lost count of the number of times we have spotted a police car driving in the opposite direction yet doing nothing about the situation. We have witnessed on more than one occasion a driver getting agro and overtaking on the straight with no oncoming traffic. Guess who get's pulled over doing no more than 110k? (that's an estimation obviously). The traffic backed up behind the slow driver are still there while the traffic cop is busy writing out his quota for the day!! Anyone dare to tell me it's not about revenue gathering? BTW, this slow driving is not confined to lady drivers or the oldies. | Gordon62 (11771) | ||

If you just got a license and still nervous I think the speed is maybe 70km allowed. Known people who were pulled over and the cop just said gave them a kind word about it. |

You can drive as slow as you like so long as you keep left and pull over to allow following traffic to pass. My Father in law was ticketed for holding up traffic not the speed he was doing. |

There is NO excuse for people driving below 100Km on the open highway with motor vehicle and their safety provisions nowadays. |

| 641502 | 2008-02-22 01:28:00 | As frustrating as it is, really the name of the game is being patient. No matter what. The guy might be annoying you for going too slow, but it's not him that's going to die when you get mad. I'm not a great one to talk, but getting better these days. It's easy to say, but it takes a big person to actually just cool down and relax about it. | Thebananamonkey (7741) | ||

So sorry. A fairly good excuse right there. And it's called a LIMIT. Which means no speed above. Doesn't say anything about below. |

| 641504 | 2008-02-22 01:30:00 | i hate people who sit in the outside lane doing 80kph, alongside two other cars doing 80kph, with a huge space infront and a huge tail behind. otherwise known as blockading. we get it on the passing lanes too. usually one or two mean insecure idiots trying to apply control over everyone else. they need to grow up. just one of the many nasty tactics the gutless wimps do. Just out of interest, has anyone ever seen a car being pulled over for going too slow in a 100k zone? Anyone dare to tell me it's not about revenue gathering? BTW, this slow driving is not confined to lady drivers or the oldies. welcome to my world ;) be patient. 90km/h is not really slow and make no real difference to a journey. 80km/h may be a bit slow, just think of it as being CHEAPER. after all whats going to happen when you get past these slow vehicles....get stuck behind a truck doing 50km/h up a hill, get stuck behind a tractor doing 30km/h ! 90km/h is speed limit for those towing and there is almost always one vehicle towing. also with the amount of traffic these days it makes no difference if you go 80km/h or 120km/h. those slow vehicles are going to be right behind you at the next town. there is no advantage to going fast. only time i complain about people going to slow is when its dangerous. those doing 70km/h sitting on the centreline end to be the dangerous ones. also the 80km/h thats driving on the wrong side of the road around corners. obviously can't drive for #$%. we get quite a few 60-70km/h drivers and i do mean drivers not vehicles. they can't think faster than 70km/h so really they should not be allowed on the road. most are usually driving vehicles that have 200+km/h top speeds and they are doing 70km/h......until someone tries passing, then it gets interesting ;) police did start a campaign on slow drivers. a mate was pulled over by cop due to going 80km/h in the camper van. its the vehicles top speed *** ! !!! i think there would have been many complaints by caravan clubs etc. |
