Am thinking about building a super budget gaming system for casual gaming i've got some specs sorted out but i cant decide between the celeron and sempron for overclocking, these are the rest of my components (exludes CPU and M/B):
-160gb Seagate SATA2 300mhz, NCQ.
-DVD+/-RW SATA, Lite On.
-Raidmax Elite 208B ATX Tower Case, 450w PSU, Black.
-Geforce 8400GS, 256MB DDR2, PCIE, VGA, DVI, S-video.
-1024Mb Corsair Value Select DDR2-667 Memory Kit (2x512mb)

I'm thinking of:
1. Celeron D #420 1.6ghz + ThermalTake Golden Orb II
2. Sempron LE1150 2.0ghz + ThermalTake Golden Orb II

Unsure of type of M/b yet.

Any ideas/comments/suggestion/etc... and does anyone know how far i could OC these?

Gaming for fun? Some of us have alot higher spec systems for that.

Yep. I have an opinon but I will not post it in either forum as I may be banned.

I took the time to read some of the posts you made earlier.

642621 2008-02-22 06:08:00 The newer Celerons are only for office/home use, and from game benchmarks I've seen they are terrible.

And hell, ditch the aftermarket cooler. Intel and AMD won't release a product if they overheat that easy. Especially for cheapo Celerons/Sempron. It's like giving a hobo a 6 course meal.

Shave off the Golden Orb cooler and grab a Pentium E2160 for around $102. And you can overclock it up to 3GHz, quite a hell of a boost.

642622 2008-02-22 06:11:00 Not hated, I'm just stating that you can't do much gaming with a rig of those specs.

Maybe if you gave some indication of what sort of games you were planning on playing. It might be easier to assist you.

Thanks for advice, very helpful unlike other posts *cough*
Now am weighing up 4200+ (ignore my username) and the Pentium E2160, have done a google and the 4200's OCing looks pretty good.

Any advice on OCing graphics cards and how does it actually help?

E2160 is better. It's almost guaranteed any E2160 will be a great overclocker, and will beat a 4200+.

And as for overclocking your video card - don't bother. It's an 8400GS, and overclocking it is pointless.

642625 2008-02-22 06:16:00 Do u know how old i am?

No idea. I'm just trying to help you spend that hard earned money in away that won't leave you with a system that crawls along when attempting to game and is thereby a waste.

I have no idea how old you are and in the post you made there was no mention of a budget. But then you say you want to overclock whatever you get. I do not hate any person.

Just a suggestion here:-
http://www.overclockers.co.nz/

When or if your rig dies due to overclocking then ask there.
