| 642294 | 2008-02-20 23:39:00 | Just to put things in perspective . . . . . here are some interesting statistics: China's population 1,330,044,600 . Total area = 3,695,500 square miles 360 people per square mile . USA's population 303,824,650 . Total area = 3,794,083 square miles . 80 people per square mile . Canada's population 33,679,263 . Total area = 3,855,103 square miles . 9 people per square mile . China's largest city is Shanghai = pop . 16,740,000 USA largest city is New York = pop . 8,008,287 Canada's largest city is Toronto = pop . 2,503,281 In square miles, China is smaller than the USA but has over 4 times the population . It is smaller yet than Canada and has 40 times the population . Next time you're stuck in a traffic jam, think of China and count your blessings . The above figures are based on the 2000 census so you can just IMAGINE where today's numbers crunch! Here's another chilling thought . The USA is currently using 25% of the world's resources . At the present rate of growth, in 20 years China will be on a par with the USA at 4 times the population which will mean 4 times the consumption of world resources . That would mean that between them, China and the US would be using ALL the world's resources and there would be NOTHING left for the whole rest of the world . Here's a few pixs of Chinese leisure time: Pix #1 ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/China_Beach_01 . jpg" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) Pix #2 ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/China_Beach_02 . jpg" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) Pix #3 ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/China_Beach_03 . jpg" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) . . . makes me wonder where the bathrooms are? |

Sounds to me to be a rather difficult task when in the same documentary they said that the Chinese put 40,000 more cars on the road each day! Personal note, Joe: Wondered where you picked up your name from? There was a surfing instrumental some years back called, "Pipeline" played by The Chantays. On the b side was a tune called "Surfer Joe." Was that your inspiration, perhaps? |
