| 642235 | 2008-02-20 20:44:00 | So a bunch of people at work here started talking about all the execution videos that are now on the net, and it got me thinking . . . . if we refuse to watch at least one, is that kind of like burying our heads in the sand, and refusing to acknowledge that this kind of this thing is happening fairly regularly? Kind of like that argument about trees not making any sound when the fall, unless someone is there to hear them; in this day and age, we're a visceral society; unless we experience something first hand, or at least 'see' it, it doesn't seem real . Having said that, I do think a lot of war/terrorism coverage in the mainstream media, is overtly voyeuristic, and falls into the 'war-porn' category . So in the end I decided, from a moral stand point, that I couldn't not watch one . So I did . . . . It wasn't nice, but I actually feel better for having done it . Does this make sense guys? :o It's been fermenting in my brain all night! |

The way I see it, I know there are those kinds of videos on the net, but I choose not to watch them, for the fact that I don't want to see someone getting killed. Looking at the 'pain series' was more than enough nasty for me (cut-off head, mutilated genitals, some guy who's face had been smashed in, badly, many other things involving anuses). I didn't even watch the '2 girls 1 cup' video. | ubergeek85 (131) | ||
| 642239 | 2008-02-20 21:24:00 | I didn't even watch the '2 girls 1 cup' video. That is the most sick, repulsive thing I ever saw. I'll watch executions any day, but that... :yuck: |

I guess I just didn't feel like I could be 'outraged' or whatever about that kind of thing happening if I hadn't been brave enough to watch it . I didn't mean to be contradictory, sorry - I didn't watch the video in a voyeuristic way (I certainly got no pleasure from it!) . I just feel strongly about what's going on over there, and I wanted to have an informed opinion on things . It occurred to me after seeing the news footage of George Dubya Bush in Rwanda that no-one invaded that country to prevent what was going on there, even though 1 million people were killed . . . . I guess I'm questioning the motives for the whole Iraq/War On Terror thing too . |

| 642241 | 2008-02-20 22:02:00 | I guess I'm questioning the motives for the whole Iraq/War On Terror thing too. Coz Bush / The US like war, and all he's / they're after is the oil. And he thinks he owns the world, when in fact he doesnt. He needs to get a life. If there was no Bush, (or US), there wouldnt have been any war, in the first place. |

If there was no Bush, (or US), there wouldnt have been any war, in the first place . Exactly - my brother is really into the whole conspiracy thing regarding Osama, 9/11 and the whole war . . . . I think a lot of it is a flight of fancy, but there's some compelling 'co-incidences' etc that are hard to explain away! I think, one day, the truth will come out, and it could well bring America to it's knees . |

| 642243 | 2008-02-20 22:24:00 | Well, its just funny when something is going on in another country, who decides to visit?? Its like he thinks he can solve it. Actually it sounds like our PM  Both of them visit other countries (probably uninvited). Coz both of them are trying to be Mr and Ms goody-too-shoes. Both of them think they can solve other people's / countries problems. And both of them turn up, whether they've been invited or not. |
