| 642159 | 2008-02-20 07:48:00 | I am seeking alternative ways of getting rid of various garden pests, my rival at the moment seems to be the white moth who seems hell-bent on eating my cabbages :angry I know there is Derris Dust etc, but I am looking for the old remedies (like if you grow a certain plant in the vicinity, it will keep such-and-such pest away etc) I figure we eat enough poisons now, why add to it? |

You would be looking for Yates Nature's Way derris comes in a yellow puffer. For Aphids use Pyrethrm spay and for white fly use Conqueror oil and pyrethrm. The Derris has a withholding period of about 3 days. |

Interplanting dill and other strong-smelling herbs may also help. Also using fine netting to stop the butterfly laying its eggs. But derris dust is the most effective. |

There are plenty of helpful sites for "companion planting" found with google. The little french marigolds are often good 'companions' to deter the nasties. They add a bit of colour too.
