644980	2008-02-29 15:34:00	Well, myself and friends got drunk at a nightclub. I walked home alone but I am not drunk and 3 guys decided I was a faggot because I didn't have a woman with me. One threw a stick and another threw a rock while at the same time another threw a metal thing. I got angry and beat 2 of them up. in the mean time a 3rd party gathered up about 12 or so that I could count and decided to hunt me down. I took one down with my fist and ran. They couldn't find me but I can see them from my loft. There is heaps! I called 111 but they transferred me to christchurch. then they rang me back about 10 mins later ( yes I was counting) and said they will send a patrol soon. 10 mins has passed and they drove straight pass these guys. wtf! It has been 20 mins and I haven't seen anything except these guys drink up in the street. Wtf!	rob_on_guitar (4196)

Did you have a cellphone with you? If you beat two of them up in response to them throwing things at you then you have exposed yourself to assault complaints from them as, on the face of it, beating them up is not self defence against getting a stick and a rock thrown at you . in the mean time a 3rd party gathered up about 12 or so that I could count and decided to hunt me down . Rob, would you light a match while using a petrol pump? Would you go to a big rugby match wearing your team colours and sit in the opposing team fan area (make that an English soccer match!)? What you did was not smart. Sure, what they did to you was very unsmart, unfair, nasty, but if you don't want violence in your life there are ways to avoid it. I'll never forget a friend of mine who had a martial arts black belt or two. He was 21 at the time and worked for a security firm, giving personal protection to VIPs. FWIW, he was Asian, very fit, level headed and polite but no way you wanted to mess with him! Anyway, he told me that he was walking - alone - through a big park in Auckland (The Domain?) when a carload of hoons followed him, taunting him, calling out racial abuse. They stopped the car, got out, and it was clear they wanted to beat the crap out of him - even though he could have flattened all of them in a few seconds. "So what did you do?" I asked him, expecting to hear a great fight story. My friend told me that one of the basic things he learned in martial arts was to AVOID A FIGHT if possible and the first step in this regard was to scan the layout of the area.
