644717 2008-02-28 22:40:00 Yeah well. A special Happy Birthday to davidjh and Davesdad, who are celebrating their birthday today.

Anyway...AVG....

I had to try it...my PC crashed during the installation, had to restart and try again. Took over 10 mins to install. Installation file is rather large (almost 60mb). Used over 75 MB of RAM, firewall was hard to configure and it was slow as a wet week. My PC took over 40 secs longer to boot up with AVG installed than with Eset Smart Security, and everything was slow, switching between applications, downloading email..all took longer than with Nod installed.

I hate it's guts already, and got rid of it pronto, well at least tried to, it was just like nortons, it didn't want to go. Missioned through the registry and got rid of it all, put Nod back on and everything is back to normal.

Oh, and I scanned over a HDD with it, it didn't pick up anything. Nod picked up 7 nasties including one virus, and got rid of them all. Speaks for itself.

644718 2008-02-28 22:47:00 Are they still doing the free version? SolMiester (139)
644719 2008-02-28 22:47:00 That the free one? pctek (84)
644720 2008-02-28 22:55:00 Nope, the full on one. (Equivalent to Smart Security).

Full support for the 7.5 Free Version will continue for "a few months", and they will bring out a free one, according to their press release, sometime mid '08.

Ugh. I feel violated just knowing that software was installed on my PC.

644721 2008-02-29 00:59:00 Well I wouldn't bother with their pay one....I mean free, well, you get what you pay for, but pay, NODs always been beeter. pctek (84)
644722 2008-02-29 02:24:00 NODs always been beeter.
I thought they would have had a final version by now? ;)

644723 2008-02-29 02:54:00 I have Nod32 on the PC and AVG free on the laptop. Hardly notice Nod32 updating but AVG free ties up the laptop when I log on and I can't use anything until it has finished. However, just a comment, as I can hardly complain about something that's free. Just glad it is available.

644724 2008-02-29 04:03:00 Well I Spose if AVG is still not to good ( being polite) at least they can try to keep up with the other players like Norton / mcAfee and make it "Bloatware":D

What always seems strange to me and heres a question.

Why can someone like Eset make a Good AV - Not have it as Bloatware, yet the other Antivirus manufactures cant ??

I thought they would have had a final version by now?
As long as there are viruses, they will always have updates / Upgrades - any one who doesn't is kidding them selves

I was amused at the typo that had NOD as "beeter" - I have never tried NOD, since for my Windoze purposes, Kapersky seems incredibly R2 friendly.

And its Windows not windoze - But I know what you are saying and thats not a typo. Kaspersky is Ok - Have used it long ago, but not lately.

But I still would be interested in other comments regarding my comment/question ------"Why can someone like Eset make a Good AV - Not have it as Bloatware, yet the other Antivirus manufactures cant "
