644176 2008-02-27 08:13:00 There was a poster outside my lecture class today, some local Canterbury based ISP (Snap) claimed to offer true unlimited broadband. I had a look at their plans (www.snap.net.nz) and their 'Snap Night Owl' plan looked decent.

* Full Speed Download between 7pm & 7am
* Rate limited to 128kbps between 7am & 7pm
* Unlimited Data Usage
* Bundled with Snap Phone
* Limited time only!

@ $39.95/month when bundled with their home phone service ($36 for Welly and Chch, $42 for the rest of NZ).

I scanned through their T&C and didn't find any 'data throttled' or 'fair usage' policy.

Anyone currently with them? How's their service? And what do others think of this deal?

Cheers.

644177 2008-02-27 09:05:00 Depends what their idea of "full speed" is. legod (4626)
644178 2008-02-27 09:11:00 Not for myself, cos I think I just pay $30 now. I find it a bit $$.
I don't do that much downloads.
I did switch from Xnet's full speed to 256k but I am ok now.

Where I am the full speed I was getting to my place was just 2Mbit or 1.8Mbit.
So its just not worth my effort.
The hours just made it worst.

Do they have signed contracts for a year or two? Do you need to spend a min amount on your phone services? Connection fee? Free modem?

644179 2008-02-27 10:25:00 Well, for half the day it's only 128kbps. Isn't that only twice the speed of dial up? qazwsxokmijn (102)
644180 2008-02-27 18:43:00 I was with Snap Internet a few years ago - I had both dialup and then ADSL with them.

Best ISP I've ever had - although my experience with Actrix was very good too.

So unless you like to do most of your surfing/downloading in the middle of the night............

644182 2008-02-27 20:24:00 Torrents everyone! :lol:

Seriously, though, that plan looks good for at home, seeing I'm at work from 8 till 6 most days...

644183 2008-02-27 21:23:00 I gotta say, it looks alright (leave it to chug away during the day while at work, play at night, then let it chug some more. That's a lot of chugging). But all prices listed include $10 off for having your phone with them too. And they don't give you an ADSL modem to go with it either (trademe could fix that in no time). And there's a possible wiring fee of $150, and a $100 early disconnection fee for the first year. But, all $$$ aside, the unlimited aspect looks alright, so long as it isn't like Telecom's 'Unleash..BANG!..splutter..slowdown..ed'. ubergeek85 (131)

Yep well it's meant for 'night owls' who come home from work @ 6pm or so. Have a fresh shower & dinner and woo (hopefully) full speed. :D

Also Actrix (www.actrix.co.nz) seem to have some pretty FTW plans. 2mbps down/128k up plan with 350mb/day data cap for $49.95 (including tolls). And you get unlimited traffic between 6pm and 8pm everyday @ full speed.
