790906 2009-07-12 22:52:00 It may say its Ok but if its not booting then its Not .

in the original Post, you said you booted from the Vista dvd, is this how you tried to do a start up Repair- Illustrated guide ( . bleepingcomputer . com/tutorials/tutorial148 . html" target="_blank">www . bleepingcomputer . com) .

If the system is badly damaged, you may be able to boot the PC from a Linux live CD, and try to recover your data to an external drive .

If not, you may need to slave the drive to a working PC then use a recovery program to try and recover your data .

If you need a GOOD data recovery program, I suggest GetData Back ( . runtime . org/) -- there are others, but I have found this will recover data that many other programs dont . There is also Easeus data recovery (http://www . easeus . com/" target="_blank">www . runtime . org/) -- there are others, but I have found this will recover data that many other programs dont . There is also Easeus data recovery (http:) . BUT get data back works a LOT better than Easeus .

The programs are not free, but the free versions allow you to see if the data is recoverable . If you are having to buy one, then get "get data back" ( its better)

In fact I have just recovered today a Customers drive using get data back, 78GB worth of data that Easeus missed most, and many others simply couldn't do it .

OK took 18 odd hours to scan the drive but it did the trick . The drive had failed big time .

Will try get data back next

I can't boot into windows.
When i put the hard drive into another computer i can see all the normal things.
Startup repair says my computer is fixed, but its not.

Anyone got any ideas to boot into windows?
