645080 2008-03-04 20:20:00 I have a friend that was beaten and raped. In a non-shady, actually decent area. She says she is not angry at him, but feels sorry for him cause he's so pathetic.

Man I wish I had been there. Not that I would have done much good, but at least I could have taken the beating instead of her :(

Good on you for hammering them Rob. Some freaks need a lesson. Although it's probably a bit silly fighting instead of running.

645081 2008-03-04 21:44:00 I cannot understand how somebody who has had such a traumatic experience as your friend, feeling sorry for the perpetrator, mejobloggs, without going into the psyche (or could it be brainwashing?) why somebody would think like that. Maybe it is simply a way of trying to cope with it. Too often the victim is made to feel they are at fault and often by the very ones who should be dealing with violence.
At a self defence course for women, the reactions of a few of those "being attacked" were..."I didn't want to hurt him"...all this when the instructor was saying "He is going to kill you". Those of us who didn't think the same way were astounded.
Until we are threatened, none of us know how we would react and unfortunately, the victim doesn't appear to have the support, or redress that should be their right, in a decent society.

Cheers,
Marnie

I hadn't realised Bulldog Drummond and his mates are still alive and well and living in NZ.

Or maybe some posters have a boastful streak.
