New calculations by University of Sussex astronomers predict that the Earth will be swallowed up by the Sun in about 7.6 billion years unless the Earth’s orbit can be altered.

OMG, this is the “Big One”.

Forget about Carbon Footprints, start the Thrusters. :groan:

643496 2008-02-25 21:09:00 And more. Another scientist believes that the molten core of the earth which creates volcanoes etc is powered by nuclear reaction and is due to burn out. When this happens the earths magnetic field well be destroyed and all life on earth with it, from the radiation from the sun and stars, as it is the magnetic field that stops these baddies from getting in. Earth would eventually end up like Mars.

Yeah I always wondered what the terraforming groups thought they were going to do about that small problem, you know, when they start going on about dropping ice comets onto Mars and recreating an atmosphere etc.

But hey, we best get on with figuring out how to move the plant first.:nerd:

Does this mean that God Inc. will have to rewrite the warranties on immortal life? If Eternity is now going to be time-limited, then I think that at the very least we should get some relaxation of the Ten Commandments so that we can compensate during our qualifying period here on Earth for the corporeal deprivation arbitrarily inflicted by this programming error.

Personally I see it as a blatant attempt to solve the overcrowding problem created by unrestricted access via the forgiveness clause, no doubt exacerbated by the successive Popes' failure to relax their contraception embargo and the accelerating demand for virgins.

Cheers

I thought that the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milkyway Galaxy (ours) would bump into each other by then. But hell we had better start taxing the population just incase..

We’re Saved, We’re Saved, you got it Paul, Tax it, that’ll fix it .

What a relief . :)

Anyway, I’m off to my “Nuclear Fall Out Shelter” I built in 1960, to have a bath in that water I saved to combat the Y2K bug in 2000, and take my daily Bird Flu shot .

I’m simply too exhausted to check my Carbon Footprint .

643502 2008-02-26 00:48:00 Plenty of magnetism left - start recycling all the broken iPod headphones: rip out the magnets in them and send them to the North Pole (anything not required for planetary remagnetisation can be recycled into new headphones by Santa). johcar (6283)
643503 2008-02-26 01:20:00 And now that you mention the North Pole, did you know that the Earths magnetic field is due to flip, ie the North Pole becomes south and the South Pole becomes north.
