791672 2009-07-15 01:22:00 I'm not very good at knowing how much laptops are worth, so can anyone tell me how much you think an HP dv5245ea is worth? The specs are:

Intel Core Duo T2050 1.6GHz
1GB RAM
GeForce Go 7400

And all the usual gizmos, wireless network etc. I am being offered to buy it for $200. Is that an OK deal?

791676 2009-07-15 02:06:00 Yeah that is the bargain of the century. I'd definitely test it before buying though. wratterus (105)
791677 2009-07-15 02:08:00 My guess is its hot, They could sell it easily for a lot more money.

Granted its an HP so that knocks a heap of value off it, but still......

791678 2009-07-15 03:18:00 Brought it home and given two days to test it out. Any particular laptop test I should run?

And so far the only thing I don't like is that it has a french keyboard layout - AZERTY instead of QWERTY and some buttons are different. It's been set up as a QWERTY keyboard but I don't touch type too well. And it's $70 for an English keyboard!

Doh! Yeah you get that unfortunately. :( Grab some of those little dot stickers from paper plus or wherever, stick onto keyboard, mark with pen. Problem solved. ;)

I'd grab an ultimate boot cd, run memory and hard drive diags, and get prime95 and speedfan, run a torture test and make sure nothing is melting.

791680 2009-07-15 03:24:00 Do a SMART scan on the HDD.

Memtest the RAM.

Buy an external KB for use when you're at home
