791626 2009-07-14 10:40:00 When trying to open a web link from MS Excel I get the error message: "Unable to open xxxx. Cannot locate the Internet server or proxy server." xxx is a URL. It happens for several different URLs. If I cut and paste from Excel into my browser, it works OK.

I looked up support.microsoft.com but it didn't help much.

I'm using Firefox v3 on windows XP.

Any ideas what to do?

Thanks in advance.

791627 2009-07-14 11:44:00 Go in control panel>add/remove programs>default programs>make sure firefox is set as the default.

Then open IE>Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Lan settings>Make sure only "Automatically detect settings" is ticked.

Also, what version of Excel are you using?

791628 2009-07-15 01:45:00 Thanks. Tried both of those but it doesn't seemed to have helped.

Excel 2007 on a Vista computer (yuck) and MS Excel viewer on an XP computer. File saved in compatible format. All give the same result.

Has anyone had problems openning links from any MS Office products?
