645551 2008-03-02 07:08:00 Did anyone else experience the strange power dip/surge in Wellington yesterday?

The lights suddenly went VERY dim, then VERY bright (half normal, then 50% above normal I estimate). This turned off/reset/crashed all our computers, reset some clocks, and crashed an ethernet switch and a router.

It also tripped a residual current device.

After this power issue, out cable internet was down for about an hour, which Telstraclear said was due to a power outage to their equipment.

Anyone know what happened?

Clock on my stereo, and the oven.

It was at exactly 7pm (give or take 1-2 min).
