646114 2008-05-01 19:46:00 The next-gen EeePC looks like it will be launching soon:

Price seems very reasonable too.

646115 2008-05-02 14:54:00 Interestingly enough, that picture DSE have used is of the OLD 4G EeePC

The speakers on the side of the screen give it away ;)

646116 2008-05-03 02:05:00 It's also interesting they have the Windows XP version now listed for the same price as linux version. This looks like a more accurate photo... ? www.dse.co.nz Deathwish (143)

The reason is the XP version has a 12GB SSD, whereas the Linux one has a 20GB

646118 2008-05-03 03:27:00 I may be making a mistake here but I am sure when I was in the DSE store the other day they had the Linux version for $500 and the XP $600 which doesn't seem the same as the on line price.

The one in DSE is the 1st generation model - i.e. the "701" series.

The explanation I quoted was for the 2nd generation model, the "900" series, which has a larger screen and more storage. The difference in storage capacity pays for the Windows licence.
