Marnie, I'm sure you are far too young to want dinner with me! :o

PS I'm older than the avatar, which is my son (about 30 years ago) He is now riding a motorbike down the West coast of Africa. See 2muppets.com.

The reason is very simple really - to differentiate between typing the words that appear as text and ones that trigger the smilie.

Otherwise there would be many words that you typed while posting that would appear as a smiley unintentionally.

...and the reason some have a single : at the start and some have one at the start and end is also simple - the default set have the 2 (start and end) - the
others have been added and the admin (Jan?) and he decided one was enough with those :)

You can of course make them anything at all, just depends what you enter in the "Text to Replace" line in the "Add Smilies" function in vBulletin Control Panel when you upload them

646054 2008-03-05 02:13:00 C'mon gals and guys! There must be hundreds more of your BBQ specialities out there! :) Richard (739)
646055 2008-03-05 03:10:00 Garlic Pork Chops.

Take 6-8 good size pork chops.
Marinate overnight in a mixture of

soy sauce
salt n pepper
baking soda (yes you read right)
rice wine
lots of freshly crushed garlic
potato starch
sesame oil

BBQ over moderate to high heat till done.

Satay Chicken Wings

Take chicken wings, separate the mini drum from the wing portion (Mini drum cooks longer)

Marinate in a mixture of

Lee Kum Kee Satay Sauce
red curry paste
medium curry powder
with a couple of tablespoons water.

Mix should be liquidy but still sticks to the wings.

Cook until done.

Whilst that is happening, take any left over marinade and put into a saucepan with around 5 tablespoons of water, extra satay sauce and a half teapsoon of crunchy peanut butter.

heat till just bubbling. Simmer and let it reduce a little.

Brush on chookies wingies just before eating or as a dip.

Now here's some I prepared a little earlier. (imagef1.net.nz)

646057 2008-03-05 05:42:00 It has been mentioned about pork crackling before but my special is a large leg of pork done in a roasting dish, seated on the flame covers in the centre of the BBQ for about 3 hours at 170 degrees. (I use a temp gauge) I just rub it with oil and sprinkle with salt and cook it.

It is absolutely stunning when it is cooked, beautiful crackling and the meat just falls off the bone.

Salads, boiled gourmet spuds, and so on make it a great feed.

Got to look for pork with thick fat!!!!

PS Beef of lamb are nice done in the BBQ as well
