| 645679 | 2008-03-04 05:40:00 | The network company (sorry PJ, Power Boards all disappeared in 1994-1998) are allowed 230v +/- 6% at the main switchboard. 390v is well within the range allowed. that's what i was told too:( remember though, it is a fairly old machine, so it could be a faulty connection/cable/chip/capacitor somewhere.... though power supply is somewhat easier to determine and remedy not looking forward to a third round of systematically checking and cleaning all the contacts, relays and cables |

Thanks Old Friend. When I put the 10% in, I wasnt really sure. It has been such a long time since I was involved in a problem like this. I used to HATE them. Often , rather than an intelligent deductive result, the answer came by sheer luck. I was a very lucky fault finding Leckie. Getting "On Side" with the M/c operater was always a good thing as well, NEVER show them up & they will tell you what Really happened. I have had trouble with Italian machinery in the past. One brand new m/c into the UK had EVERY wire in RED. Phases, neutral & earth. No cable numbers or identicication. Eventually it was taken out of service & Italian Electrician & myself, completely stripped it out & rewired it. PJ PS. How are you? PJ |

| 645681 | 2008-03-04 12:14:00 | 19 :p 2 years part time experience with this particular machine, capable 2nd year mechatronics engineering student, and been fiddling with PCs/electronics and motorbikes for atleast 5 years now strictly speaking i'm just the operator, but that lands me with maintentance and bug finding/repair. finally convinced the bosses (family run business) to fork out and get the thing looked at properly by engineers when it became un-usable last week. so of course that's why i've been asking for advice here. i can't necessarily tell if/when the engineers are bull****ting me/company nor do i know what is considered normal for this sort of industrial power application just trying to get this running again so i can get back to work, plus as a bonus the experience relates directly to my degree:) |

| 645682 | 2008-03-27 12:42:00 | ok, guys, time for an update while i remember a few weeks back we checked the voltages across some of the massive capacitors up by the 3 phase step-up transformer, i assume they had something to do with mains power to alot of things around power supply. anyway, it seems that once they warmed up a bit, a contact was broken, voltage dropped, and the whole thing crashed. replaced the dodgy capacitor, and whaddaya know the machine works fine! not a single error since then:D thanks for all the help guys (and wtf, that last post of mine is a result of me misreading PJ's post) |
