2008-03-03 00:53:00 | Apparently I did have a cash advance. According to them. What I had done at one point was transfer some money onto it by mistake, then transferred it back out. This is now a cash advance and as a result I now get charged 2 lots of interest. The monthly usual one and a daily one. The daily one does not get shown as anything, it just slowly disappears as it has been. They cannot alter this, and they insist its a cash advance. *&^%$ banks.

2008-03-03 01:40:00 | I recall the "cash advance" problem from long ago discussion with bank. They consider that it's a "cash advance" even when you are drawing out your from own credit balance and they charge interest until you repay the same amount (to yourself!) You got to give them *credit* for being inventive! :-)

2008-03-03 02:15:00 | You will find that the can do it, very simply too. It's just who is willing to grow a pair and do it for you. Banks make me sick with all the extra fees they make you pay, but I bet if it was reversed and it was there money ticking away it would be fixed in seconds. | rob_on_guitar (4196) | |

2008-03-03 04:00:00 | wait, so you had paid money into your credit card such that it had a positive balance, and then you took it back again, while leaving a 0/positive balance, and then they started charging you interest on your own money? | utopian201 (6245) | |

That's what I originally thought, then I figured that pctek must have been in "credit" when she did that for it to make sense. |

2008-03-03 11:01:00 | Yup I would think banks would just say its a cash advance. That's by the books. If it was a +ve bank balance there should be no interest afaik with my bank. But if it was in -ve balance at the time and you had not received your invoice yet - the monthly statement, then yeah at that particular moment it is a -ve balance (that time and date), you popped some money there by mistake then took it out by doing a "cash advance" and due to that its interest calculated on a daily basis with the ATM cash advance service fee as well. The key I think is not whether you popped a POSITIVE $10 in and then took $10 out to balance it. Its at the time the account balance. At the time you of spent $500 since your last full payment to the bank. Then you by mistake put $10 in. Now instead of $500, you are $490 in debit. Then you took the $10 out. Technically you did this when your whole account was in debit. So interest is charged. Not sure how you are charged 2x though. Cos when you put money in that should be free and when you did cash adv that should be the only time they charged you. Unless you are talking about your other accounts. In the past, if I owed the bank like $15 full payment to them and once I missed it 7 days, they bill me like $5 and then they charge me penalty. So that from $15 was quite a big percentage .. It was my mistake missing a payment so yeah I just paid it and due to my terms of conditions any payment of the min amount not made I am liable to that $5 fee on top of my interest charges.

2008-03-03 20:54:00 | One of the few times I paid interest on the credit card was when I accidentally put the wrong card in an eftpos machine to withdraw cash. The cards were similar in appearance and had the same PIN number. Realised I'd done it as soon as it happened so drove to the bank to replace the money. Too late. Got charged interest for the month. But I changed the PIN number and haven't done it again. | Mercury (1316) | |
