792157 2009-08-01 01:17:00 I've just looked carefully at the instructions that came with the card - and I found this note:

"Note: Please ensure that your satellite dish is correctly aligned and the Sat cable is connected directly from the LNB and not via a set top box."

So does this mean that the dish should be getting power straight from the PCI bus? If that's the case, then maybe the problem is with the dish or the connections.

792158 2009-08-01 01:23:00 Yep, Optus D1 is the satellite.

I **think** most dishes are powered by an external source rather than the card/STB.

You could try seeing if you could find anyone you know who has a freeview satellite STB, and ask them if you could borrow it then test it in your house to see if it works off your dish .

792159 2009-08-01 01:24:00 You don't need any power going to the dish. It is already there the moment you connect the cable to your tuner.

A couple of months ago I bought a Freeview HD tuner for my TV. It gets it signal via a UHF aerial. This is a quote from the tuners manual which may help you.

If the receiver has not been installed prior, the channel database will be empty. During the first time installation you will see this message " No Data" press menu for installation.
1. Please press Menu on your remote control.
2. Scroll down to installation and press enter.
3. Scroll to auto scan and press enter.

Enter password 0000. The receiver will indicate Select Location = New Zealand
Press enter to automatically scan and place into memory all services transmitted in the region.
When the receiver states Scan Complete press exit.

792161 2009-08-01 04:13:00 UPDATE: Hey everyone, just letting you all know that I finally got it working - with both WinTV and Media Center.

I think the reason it wasn't working was a combination of both using the wrong cable (as I said there are two coming out of the wall, but only one seems to be connected to the dish), and not using the right settings.

I climbed up on the roof and checked the label on the LNB, and found this (forums.overclockers.co.nz) forum page that talks about the settings for a near identical model to mine (except mine was 10750 MHz, instead of 11300). I tried the settings with one cable, but it still didn't work. So I plugged in the other one, tried the same settings and scanned for channels, and this time, it WORKED!

Thanks to everyone who's been helping me. :thanks
