| 645981 | 2008-03-03 23:53:00 | Why do we have to those speeds, what would the average person do with it. Most people are currently on 256kbps and doing everything they want to do. Not everyone wants to download movies, they use the internet for email and web sites and watching the occasional video clip etc and current FS plans are more than adequate for that. IPTV?? |

| 645985 | 2008-03-04 04:27:00 | Big problem that . Don't know if I could handle it . ADSL2+ is definitely not going to be all it's cracked up to be, unless you live right next to the exchange . Even then, in Auckland a lot of the exchanges seem to be so overloaded . Thats why Telecom they are installing roadside cabinets, which will bring the network closer to houses . I am guessing only Telecoms and their resellers will have access to this, and it won't be applicable to the unbundling arrangement and those ISPs who do unbundling . This is fair enough, as it is telecom who is doing the investing, and I can't see other NZ ISPs with the money to install their own cabinets . I hope the government don't change the goalposts again, like they did with Auckland Airport, otherwise no private company would invest in NZs infrastructure . Once the canbinets are there, in the future you can then install fibre from the cabinets, to the house, which would provide 1st class internet speeds . |

| 645987 | 2008-03-04 21:02:00 | The one major thing they (and a lot of us) keep forgetting, is sure, you can increase the NATIONAL bandwidth, which would be great, but that really only means that stuff hosted here in NZ is going to be faster. Too bad hardly anything worth viewing is hosted in NZ. So until they talk about buying more INTERNATIONAL bandwidth, we aren't going to see any big difference for international traffic, which is a lot of the problem. | wratterus (105) | ||
