645376 2008-03-01 21:44:00 PCtek - Did you take a "cash advance" in the previous or this month? Often there is interest to pay on cash advance from the day it is taken to the day it is repaid - even if your account has a credit balance.
Or did you not pay up in full last month? (Same idea - interest on unpaid amount.)

645377 2008-03-01 22:03:00 It sounds like you're being charged interest on something for it to be slowly declining. It wouldn't be economically worthwhile for a scammer to be charging credit cards 0.80/day as the merchant fees alone would be more than that.

The other thing to be aware of (though unlikely), is that if you've filled up your car at one of those self-service stations (e.g. Pak n Save Fuel), they put a pre-authorisation on your card which "locks" a certain amount of money. These can take several days to disappear.

645378 2008-03-01 23:39:00 Another thought: What method do you use to check? Text messaging costs something (25c?) and maybe there's a transaction fee (50c?) for charging it to VISA and if we throw in a drop of GST? coldot (6847)
645379 2008-03-02 00:09:00 Why not just ask them?

645380 2008-03-02 00:34:00 Yes .
Yes, several .

$3328 . 64 is the balance . (Spent)
Limit is $3500 .
Available balance today is $157 . 22 .

See?

$3500 - $3328 . 64 = $171 . 36 .

86c vanished last night .
85c the night before .

Before that, it was roughly 80 something cents . Per day .
Since mid-Feb .

Now if someone was to take say, 80c from 1000 visa accounts per day . . . . . . . . . . . .

That is strange because normally nothing will update/change over the weekend on my credit card statements online or any bank account for that matter .
If I use the credit card over the weekend or EFTPOS etc from normal bank account the transactions only show up on Tuesday .

If they are interest charges then surely they would show up as a transaction???

645381 2008-03-02 01:38:00 pctek, have you put any new Bills Payable into the system.

Our bank charges 50 cents for each new bill to be paid through them.

Lurking.

645382 2008-03-02 02:49:00 I have asked. The contact centre can't see anything that I can't view and card services is not open till Monday. They only do normal business hours.

No its not a fee, I have a zero account thing with ASB, besides fees come out of your normal account not your Visa.

Its not interest - that comes in large lump sums around the first week of the month.

Its not a transaction, the only one I have made was 16th Feb. I don't do cash advances.
In fact I hate credit, its the first time its ever been in debt, I had to use it for the shop startup costs.
Transactions show anyway.

It doesn't show up.

80c is not much but lests see, per day and from say 1000 accounts, nice wage that would be.

I have had a credit card for years and years. This one was in credit until I opened the shop, and none of this occurred until mid-Feb this year. As far as I can tell, its been a maximum of 2 weeks and a minimum of 1 week that I noticed.

I have never had small amounts vanish like that before.

Thats why I posted it here, it may be ASB Visa specific. Anyone else noticed anything odd lately?

A friend of mine said she wouldn't cause she doesn't check, she just assumes her CC statement is correct.

Like I said, they better have a good explanation when I finally do get hold of them. Its very interesting.........Yes, tweake, that thought occurred to me too.

645383 2008-03-02 07:18:00 What's the interest rate? It could be that the interest is applied daily to your balance, but only shows up as one transaction per month. 86c per day is $314 per year, which could work if you have a low interest (say 12-14%) card and the last transaction you made is not incurring interest yet.

If this theory is correct, your balance won't change when the lump sum for interest for the month appears on your statement. I can't think of anything else it could be.

Perhaps when this started is when you first started running a balance on the card and thus paying interest?

That sounds highly likely.

645385 2008-03-02 23:41:00 Pure guesswork, but have you had a cash advance, and the amounts represent daily interest on the advance? (I don't even know if that is how it works, so I'm quite possibly totally wrong).

D'Oh! I missed the earlier posts that said the same thing!
