645911 2008-03-11 20:51:00 I'd listen to the insurers. If they say the new tyres should be going on the back, then chances are that's the safest outcome. Remember that these people assess risk for a living, and if they get it wrong then it impacts their bottom line. They have both the theoretical knowledge, and firsthand experience picking up the pieces. Erayd (23)
645912 2008-03-11 20:54:00 I dont care if all the tyre experts in the world said put the new tyres on the back of the car, they are wrong. The best tyres should go on the front .

And the propellor should be at the bow Admiral!

Don't worry Richard...we can all learn later on when we read the obituary that says:

He died as he lived:

Pig-headed, listening to old wives' tales and mocking the laws of physics,
tire companies and insurance underwriters.

May he forever be changing flat tires on 3 ton trucks in a field of mud
....with only a pair of pliers
....in a monsoon
....at midnight
....with no moon
....or a flashlight
for other-worldly and spectral drivers.

645914 2008-03-11 21:21:00 All truth passes through three stages:
First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.

645916 2008-03-25 23:17:00 Just had 2 new tyres fitted by Firestone. I asked them where they should go, on the front or back. The guy said LTSA recommend putting them on the back. I asked him what Firestone recommend and he said the front, so I put the new tyres on the front and the half worn ones on the back. The tyres I replaced were on the back but originally from the front. They were getting pretty worn on the outside. Everytime I went for a WOF they mentioned them.

645919 2008-03-25 23:39:00 Thats because there are too many self proclaimed experts and not enough real ones. rob_on_guitar (4196)
645920 2008-03-25 23:44:00 I would change all tyres, a different grip niveau is not the best deal.
When you change only 2, than the rear tyres. Understeering is less dangerous than oversteering.
