792392 2009-07-17 02:44:00 yargh..... i didint really want to start a whole thread just for this but i really cant find any solid advice on this

recently my brother Demanded i build him a computer and once i got paid for the deed and did so the next inevitable Question is he wants the internet on it so he can play his runesscape and his mates can send him viruses disguised as "FUN GAME.JPG.PIF" :yuck:

anyway :p we have the 1 woosh modem and we now have 3 PC's that would benifet from a Internet Connection (plus maybe a xbox 360 on the way..... :o)

id like to use the one woosh connection for all these devices so the simplest idea i can think of is whip in a 5 port router and be done with it

....but i cant find anything of decent quality that specifiys they work with PPOE Modem Connections

any ideas on what i could get? im looking to spend no more than $150\$200 because as usual the people that want it are refusing to actually put money towards it (buisness as usual eh?)

Cheers guys

792393 2009-07-17 02:58:00 Linksys (www.pbtech.co.nz) is pretty good, but its only a 4 port. ronyville (10611)
792394 2009-07-17 03:02:00 Are you using bb with Woosh or wireless? Speedy Gonzales (78)

I used to use a Linksys WRT54GL router with a Woosh wireless moden - it worked fine.

792396 2009-07-17 03:21:00 Are you using bb with Woosh or wireless?

Woosh Wireless via their PPOE Wireless modem

Cheers

EDIT: those to routers are looking pretty good - i take it you can disable the wireless? as i dont plan to make use of it

792397 2009-07-17 03:25:00 Hmm i wouldnt trust their wireless. It probably wouldnt handle 3 pcs's let alone an Xbox. It'd be flaky Speedy Gonzales (78)

indeed this is my thinking too

im sorta going with the flow at the moment - ill get them a router and if it proves problematic there not much else we can do as all we can get is woosh >_<

then again it might be ok - brother only wants runescape and my parents want trademe and e-mail

the 360 if it does appear shouldnt be too bad? bar software updates ect it shouldnt harass the connection that much?

792399 2009-07-17 04:01:00 Well if the Xbox hasnt been updated (and it updates thru wireless) and the connection dies, it'd probably kill the Xbox. If it stops and you turn it off.

Altho you can download a zip file with the Xbox update. It may still be too laggy playing anything on the Xbox (if you play online) with Woosh

792400 2009-07-17 04:01:00 I've shared a Woosh Wireless connection (with up to 7 concurrent users) using a wireless router before - it's fine so long as nobody tries doing any P2P, or streaming video. Basic web browsing, email, and so on works ok. somebody (208)
