2009-07-16 23:09:00 | Guys Ive just got back from Aus, plugged my laptop in and expected to be able to go on line via Wireless without any problems. Not so. The Laptop finds my wireless Router/Modem fine and after entering my Router Password it tells me I am now connected and signal strength excellent. Great, but I cant get on the Internet. :illogical Ive tried pinging 192.168.1.1 the Kinect ISP Gateway but no luck. What have I overlooked this time? :D P.S. This is posted from my Desktop which is working fine through the same Router/Modem.

2009-07-16 23:20:00 | On the laptop, once the wireless is connected, do a start > run > cmd > ipconfig, what values does it give you. Also did you assign a static ip to the wireless anytime? What OS are you running? | ronyville (10611) | |
2009-07-16 23:24:00 | Is it "trying to acquire network address"? If so, try re-entering your network KEY. It's case sensitive so that may be the problem. Just a thought but has worked for me. | The Hitcher (14826) | |
2009-07-16 23:55:00 | Wow, that was quick. Starting at the top. Ipconfig returns: I..P. Address 192.168.0.5 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.0.1 Not sure about Static Address being allocated?. Possibly, as the computer was given to me whilst in Aus. OS = XP Sp2 I tried renewing the password, even setting up a new connection but although I get a balloon telling me Im connected with excellent signal strength, nothing. Same on Firefox and IE6. Yes, a balloon in the bottom left hand corner of Firefox tells me its looking up whatever website but then it times out with the dreaded Address Not Found message. I think the change of temperature between here and Aus has frozen my brain. ;) God I'm cold!

2009-07-16 23:56:00 | What is this "Kinect" gateway you mention on 192.168.1.1? What if you ping 192.168.0.1? | inphinity (7274) | |
2009-07-17 00:01:00 | Do ipconfig /all, what are the DNS servers? Should be the same as 192.168.0.1. Whats your router address? Is it 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1? | ronyville (10611) | |
2009-07-17 00:06:00 | The desktop is probably working because its connected via ethernet not wireless You'll have to find out what the ip of the router is and the valid ip range of the router . Update it to SP3, it adds more wireless features

The Gateway address to the Kinect ISP (A subsidiary of Trustpower and an excellent ISP if available in your area) is 192.168.1.1 The computer was looking up 192.168.0.1 and the DNS Servers were also set to .0.1 instead of .1.1 Anyway, sorted now and working well thanks to everyone. Geeeeeeez Im still cold. :D |
