792165 2009-07-16 04:14:00 Looking at the types of program that clean up ones computer(ccleaner,RegCure,Uniblue etc),the tool is provided but adjusting is left to the individual. My question: What should one be adjusting, fine tuning etc? Is there some site that explains the ins & outs of CPU adjustment.I'm not looking to supe up my computer just get it to function to the best of its capability. amyes5 (2773)

UniBlue and RegCure are both horrible and can potentially cause you major headaches, and UniBlue also slows things down a bit if it's running in the background. Dump them both, and get CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/).

NOD32 (www.eset.co.nz/) is the best anti virus solution - or Avast Home (http:) if you want a free one.

Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org)and Spybot S&D (www.safer-networking.org) are good for anti spyware.

You can also grab HijackThis (www.trendsecure.com) and post a log for us to look through, we can tell what can go and that should speed things up a bit too.

Can you please clarify what you mean by CPU adjustment? Are you looking to overclock?

792169 2009-07-16 06:08:00 "Cleaning" the computer can only bring back a little bit more speed.

Don't bother with "Optimization" tools on the web. Most are scams.

Just stick with the ones recommended above.
