791970 2009-07-15 22:26:00 I have a 5 page MS Word 2007 document. The 1st page is a cover page the 2nd page is the table of contents.

I want to insert the page number from page 3 starting with the number 1.

I have followed the instructions on the Microsoft Office on-line help pages but have not been able to get this done.

Can anyone give me a hand with this one please?

Thanks,
chiefnz (545)

I'll try again, though.

Thanks,

791973 2009-07-16 03:12:00 Hi, I think you will need to insert a section break as Word uses page numbers and formatting applicable to whole sections .

Move cursor to the bottom of page 2 (ie after any text) and select Page Layout > Breaks > Section Break (Next Page) . You now have a section break to separate pages 1 & 2 from the rest of the document .

Now move cursor to anywhere on page 3 so your in the 2nd section and select Insert > Page Number and then choose bottom of page or where ever you want the page numbers . You now have this starting at number 3 by default so to change this to 1 select Insert > Page Number > Format Page Numbers > Start At : 1 .

Graham
