648520 2008-03-11 10:54:00 O2 make excellent smartphones PJ.

As long as its GSM compatible, she'll be able to use it. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure they make CDMA phones.

Don't know how that works, but when In England recenly,I bought a sim card from Tesco, solved compatibility problems and very reasonable.
One presumes it may be the way to go here?

648523 2008-03-13 23:46:00 OK Thanks. All sorted now. To unlock her UK phone was

15Quid. NZ$37.5. Plus leave it in the shop overnight.

The phone is 2 yrs old & due to be changed anyway. Will look at a new phone when she gets here & unlock it for the UK. PJ

I don't think you need to unlock phones bought in NZ to be used elsewhere .

648526 2008-03-29 20:13:00 Vodafone NZ doesn't lock their phones. There is very little need to as they have no competing GSM provider. Vodafone UK does lock their phones.

On a side note, those CDMA/GSM phones that Telecom are advertising do seem to be locked. It would be interesting to unlock one to see if you can run a Telecom line/number and a Vodafone line/number off one hand set.
