793312 2009-07-20 08:33:00 Hi there,

My flatmate is attempting to upgrade his computer a little to eke some more life out of it. We are trying to discover the maximum ram his computer will take.

He has a HP pavilion dv2021TU which he got from harvey normans a couple of years ago. It has one ram slot, and it currently has 512 mb of 553mhz ddr2.

Any ideas how we can determine the maximum size we can put in? The HP product website doesn't have a specification sheet for that kind of information that I can find.

Cheers,

GorCh

793313 2009-07-20 08:51:00 Most laptops take up to 4gb

You would only want that as a max anyways, as 32bit OS's can only recognise up to about 4gb altogther(3.25gb minus shared GFX memory)

How about posting a HijackThis log here, maybe he has accumalted some crap...

Defrag?

793314 2009-07-20 08:52:00 Oh yea. What about downsizing? Like if he put in a 2gb, but it only took 1gb max. Would it utilise the 1gb? or not work at all? GorCh (13021)
793315 2009-07-20 08:55:00 It probably wouldn't recognise the chip.

Its highly unlikely it only supports 2gb though.

If the manual is refering to windows 98/2000.... it may take less.

This is the manual for the DV2000 family (8MB though)

Looks as if 1GB may be maximum (depends on CPU and OS etc), the first link should help you find out.
