647600 2008-03-12 02:44:00 Not everyone can remember their ISP email address.

You just log into your ISPs account, where you check your usage, and it should be displayed their. Also you can contact your ISP, and they will tell you what it is. I know of quite a few online NZ business's who now only allow signup from NZ ISPs, or .nz email addresses, and if you don't have one, you have to email them manually to signup.

647601 2008-03-12 02:47:00 Why restrict the forum to NZ users ?
That would rule out many, including Me.
Broaden your horizon robbyp.

By the way, I have just picked up a spam
from so-called jeanette on this forum. He
or she must be a religion nut. A forum ban
won't stop them re-registering under a
different user name, so I guess we haven't
seen the last of this nutcase.
blanco.
Maybe have a manual signup option too, for overseas users, where a moderator checks the validity of overseas signups. I mean a high percentage of overseas signup must be spam. All I know is that forum spam is a huge problem for forum moderators and users, and it is just a suggestion.

647602 2008-03-12 18:43:00 robbyp,

You have to take the rough with the smooth.
That's life.

647603 2008-03-12 20:55:00 I think they should brack down on people signing up, as currently any spammer can signup, and the spam is getting worse. Maybe they should be made to have a NZ email address (eg. the one your ISP gives you), to authentic that you are a legitiate user.

Just ban all free email addresses (a lot of forums do), which would allow only those given by ISP and which most people won't spam from because it's too easy to get caught.

A little exaggeration there perhaps?

We have very little spam here compared to most I think

No, it is a big problem. Think back to how it was on F1 before the CAPTCHA was enabled. We were deleting multiple spam threads every day. Multiply that by all the forums out there and it is a big problem.

647606 2008-03-13 10:02:00 Oh so its called CAPTCHA.

Sometimes I hate that when I sign up the forums

You guys ever seen a forum or a website which you try to sign up where the letters or numbers are so hard to read?

647607 2008-03-13 10:12:00 sometimes, I just refresh the page and re-enter everything. Much easier than staring at a squiggly line trying to figure out if it's even in our alphabet Agent_24 (57)
647608 2008-03-13 10:19:00 Sometimes it gives me 5 minutes to actually be able to read what character it is.

Some websites are really good at testing my eye sight
