Wratterus: Not speaking Deutsch is no excuse.;) Although my travel and experience in Germany cannot be termed extensive, everywhere I went (in the west, south of Bonn) there was no problem with an inability to speak Deutsch. My grasp is severely limited but I could always find someone who spoke English. They were always amused by my efforts.:D

Most schoolchildren learn English and French and are very good at both.

My time there left a lasting impression of a very nice and very obliging people with a great sense of humour. I'm looking forward to returning, but in the summer - it's too bloody cold at the moment (between 2 and 6C!)

647776 2008-03-10 05:55:00 Hi,

about 200.000 members. In germany one of the biggest pc forums.

Unless I'm missing something, 200 (well, 200.000 tho the .000 isnt needed) members isn't much.

(and yes, I'm taking the piss)

647778 2008-03-10 06:48:00 My experience is with Germans as with other non cricket playing peoples they lack a sense of humour. XRNZN (13406)

647781 2008-03-10 09:07:00 Here's my experience trying Kiwi German to get a couple of beds for the night:
"Haben Sie bitte, zwei betten fur ein nacht?
Do you have 2 beds for one night?
"Keine betten, keine betten, aber lager"
No beds, but why is this silly fraulein offering me a beer?
Finally, she took my hand and led me to a room with dozens of bunks! Lager also means dormitory.
