1441726 2017-11-08 01:33:00 My Canon Pixma iP4600 recently died. Discussion with Canon, and their Christchurch repair agents say that the problem is in the print head, I think in a valve. The printer uses 5 cartridges, 521 Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow, and a larger 520 Black. All cartridges in the printer are full or nearly so, as I replaced the 521 Black & Cyan immediately before it died. I also have unopened cartridges 521 Black, Yellow & Magenta. These are suitable for: iP3600, iP4600, iP4700, MP540, MP550, MP560, MP620, MP630, MP640, MP980, MP990, MX860, & MP870 printers. I am willing to sell these for a reasonable price, and if it of any use throw in the printer. Brucem (8688)
1441727 2017-11-08 01:45:00 You didn't replace the printer with a compatible one then? pctek (84)
1441728 2017-11-08 03:55:00 I threw my still working canon inket in the trash, it p*88ed me off so much. I think it was an ip4600

Last canon I'll ever buy.
After just 2 reams of paper I got the waste ink pad full issue & wasted hours of my life looking for the code to reset & make it print again
It wasted so much ink with head cleans almost every time you turn it on.

1441731 2017-11-11 23:35:00 The print head is nearly as much as a brand new printer actually. Depends on the model, some Canons have a interchangeable print heads. Epsons do not. They need to be used regularly and stick to really good inks either OEM or high quality compatibles. Eg ... you can get top quality b/w inks that you can convert so you get like a 6 tones of mono ink cartridge printer..

Depends on how new the printer is and how popular it is. Generally inks on Trademe goes for cheap as chips and still many cases no one buys. Are they at all expired? That's worst.

Is it just blocked or what's wrong? If it is blocked you can put a paper tissue put some ammonia on it and push and pull the print ahead over it a few times and see if that helps. You can release the print head so it moves by turning it on and then pull the cord or switch it off at the wall.

The fact is the actual ink is dirt cheap . Can be less than 50c each to manufacture the ink carts
The OEMs are simply ripping you off for ink carts . Thats where they make all the money

Nothing wrong with buying compatible inkjet carts (apart from the color) .
The money saved would easily cover replacing the whole printer every year .

1441733 2017-11-12 21:38:00 When the problem arose I rang Canon, and quoted the error codes that arose. they said what the problem was, and gave the name of their local authorised repairer, he gave me a price indication of about $200. The printer has always been fed genuine Canon cartridges. Brucem (8688)
1441734 2017-11-12 22:02:00 to be honest, something like an iP4600 just isnt worth repairing . They werent designed to be repaired

When I used to do printer warranty repairs , for cheap inkjets we would just replace with new & throw the old one in the bin .
The manufacturer didnt even require us to attempt a warranty repair on the cheap inkjets . Lasers I would have to strip & fix

The printer repair industry pretty much died sometime back. Printers are now another throw away item.
