I actually disable Ccleaner monitoring in its settings as I don't feel its needed. You could also disable onedrive if you don't use it. I'm sure others will tell you more | gary67 (56) | ||
| 1441003 | 2017-10-23 18:56:00 | Adding to the list Gary posted, you can disable Wondershare. You have one of the worst system hog Antivirus - Avast Antivirus = YUCK. That alone will slow things down greatly on startup. Even Norton isn't as much of a system hog as Avast these days. Had a guys laptop here last week, with avast installed took close to 4 minutes to boot fully and get up and running. After ripping out avast the time dropped to less than a minute. Also look through the forum, I've posted several times on what to disable in W10 to speed up the start process. |

| 1441005 | 2017-10-23 20:25:00 | Adding to the list Gary posted, you can disable Wondershare. You have one of the worst system hog Antivirus - Avast Antivirus = YUCK. That alone will slow things down greatly on startup. Even Norton isn't as much of a system hog as Avast these days. Had a guys laptop here last week, with avast installed took close to 4 minutes to boot fully and get up and running. After ripping out avast the time dropped to less than a minute. Also look through the forum, I've posted several times on what to disable in W10 to speed up the start process. What Free antivirus would you recommend? I aslo have Windoows Defender. Thanks. PJ |

Wont touch them, as you should see the number of computers which have a free AV that have some sort of performance problem or some sort of infections. While NOTHING is perfect, some work better than others. Cant remember the last time I had a computer through the workshop that had Avast and didn't have something detected by the antimalware cleaning programs. |

Its OK, used it for while . If with Spark/Telecom, you can get McAfee for free AVG,Avast : just bloatware now. Avast can be installed without the bloat, but will still get all the Avast scareware popups Little better than the malware itself (my opinion) Avira is another free option , but has no email scanning in the free version . Many of the freeware AV's wont scan incoming email. FYI Just removed Kaspersky Free from my notebook. It was OK, but drove its tendrils too far into the browser & its browser plugins couldnt be properly disabled Which meant that laptop couldnt be used 'offline' mode (no internet) to setup a new modem/router etc , untill I removed KAV |

PJ If it was mine I'd remove a whole heap more. In most cases you don't need any programs running on startup except an antivirus and perhaps your printer monitor. Really, you just run them when you need them.......... And there are a lot of parts of Windows that do things in the background, an awful lot of which you don;t need either. Although that's trickier if you aren't familiar with services. Then again, Black Viper can help with that.... |
