2017-10-14 18:55:00 | Family Tree Maker tells me it cant connect to the internet because of a firewall. Have turned off W7 firewall temporarily but still no joy. Any suggestions? Thanks

(never seen Family Tree maker blocked) Not to sure how accurate the following is, dont have any W7's to check. www.sevenforums.com Are you sure its the windows firewall ?? Some security programs have an inbuilt over protective firewall as well. |

2017-10-15 01:02:00 | Back in May this year it was $29.95 US I think it was. You had to pre-order it. As long as you had registered a previous version, you could get it for the cheaper price. About 35 or something NZ. It took a while to be released tho. It was released in Aug/Sept According to the site, it's now $115.60 NZ $ I've got the install on this PC. It's 635mb. Good thing about this version is you dont have to install 2014 first. You can install it as is / by itself One thing you couldnt do, with FTM 2014. You had to install 2014. But if you install 2014.1 it installed in another folder. Even tho it was an update of 2014 And the good thing about FTM 2017 it's free of activation. So it doesnt need a key. Install it, it's ready to use.

2017-10-15 01:38:00 | I have a feeling the servers in the previous version have been killed. Since another company made FTM 2017. And some of the options in the older version/s aren't in FTM 2017 Have a read of this (blogs.ancestry.com)

2017-10-15 04:16:00 | An article in the March 2017 GenCom News about the FREE UPDATE to the 2104 ver of FTM, if you need a copy. Ancestry.com has taken them over. We have a sub. with Ancestry.co.uk. lurking.

2017-10-15 09:33:00 | FTM was owned by Ancestry. They sold it to MacKiev Software, and at the same time disabled their method of synchronising with the Ancestry servers. MacKiev have made significant changes to the program and introduced a new synching system, that connects seamlessly to Ancestry and FamilySearch. I upgraded to FTM 2017 (at no cost from 2014, when it was being trialled) and run it on two computers and an iPad, and everything stays in sync perfectly.
