| 1440013 | 2017-09-30 23:27:00 | Arrgh this is frustrating. Despite tons of how-to's online, nothing I found is giving me the right guidance. I want to use my notebook's ADSL connection via my mobile phone to connect to the Internet. Its only for occasional use so that when I do updates or large downloads on my phone I don't use my phone's limited bandwidth allocation. I've done it happily in reverse for eg when I've been without home adsl. My lappie is a Toshiba Satellite P70 A series with Windows 8.1. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, model GT-19195, running Android 4.4.2. Thanks for any help. |

You mean you want to use your broadband rather than mobile data? So all you do is have your phone swap to wifi when in range, rather than the cell connection. It doesn't go via your laptop, just the modem....hence wifi. |

I want to use my notebook's ADSL connection via my mobile phone to connect to the Internet So all you do is have your phone swap to wifi when in range, rather than the cell connection. It doesn't go via your laptop, just the modem....hence wifi. That makes no sense at all! Nevermind, I just did the Update which took bugger-all mobile data anyway |

It's not a common thing which is why clear instructions may be hard to find. Try this one www.howtogeek.com Anyway that is definitely harder than just connecting to your router directly via wifi which is what pctek mentioned. If your router has wifi, you just connect directly to it. Once it's set up the phone will automatically use it first anytime it's in range and the wi-fi is turned on. There is no need to involve your laptop unless your router doesn't have wifi and doing so just complicates things. |

| 1440018 | 2017-10-01 02:17:00 | Your question actually leaves / creates a lot more questions, meaning only a fraction of the details are given. Hence PCTEKs question makes perfect sense. HOW does the Laptop currently connected to the ADSL Now, is it Via ethernet or wireless ?? If its wireless then simply turn on the wireless on your phone and connect the same as the laptop. I have the same phone and once a week I turn on the wireless at home to download any updates, or at people places to check their wireless. If its only Via ethernet (it would be a very old modem/router if it didn't have wireless) then create a hotspot on the Laptop --Simple way. turn-a-windows-81-pc-into-a-wi-fi-hotspot-with-the-command-prompt/ (www.lifehacker.com.au) |

HOW does the Laptop currently connected to the ADSL Now, is it Via ethernet or wireless ?? ] How the laptop connects doesn't matter at all. I haven't seen a modem in years that isn't also wireless, whether that is being used or not. I don't use the wireless on mine, but granddaughter does when she is here, her phone just connects to it, wifi..... So Greg, you set your phone to wifi, look for the wifi connection, that your modem is showing. The laptop is irrelevant. |

"? You asked only one of relevance. Anyway, the modem I use is not wireless, though I do have a couple lying around. And pctek's comment "How the laptop connects doesn't matter at all" is clearly nonsense. The link's solution you gave is simple enough to implement, thx. |
