1440858 2017-10-25 03:58:00 Do you guys think that a clean reinstall of Win10 will help?

That's a lot of time in installing /configuring Windows ; but if it helps.. only if.

Why not try a repair install keeping your files and settings using the latest Win 10 ISO?

I did this recently several times with win 8.1 when trying to find problems with Internet Explorer, it is fairly quick and painless.

1440859 2017-10-25 04:12:00 Tony: I did that.

I went to device Manager, update driver and let Windows search online for driver and came up with this:

What do you understand by: "The installation of this device is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator." ?

Something is blocking the installation?

1440860 2017-10-25 04:28:00 If the audio for the HDMI sound doesnt work you need video drivers not audio drivers. They're 2 different things Speedy Gonzales (78)
1440861 2017-10-25 04:36:00 Speedy, it's Realtek High Definition Audio, not HDMI sound. bk T (215)

That sounds like something for Wainuitech. :) I was suggesting that rather than just update the driver you tell Windows you want to remove the device and then check "delete the driver software". No guarantees that it will work, but it is worth a go.8368

1440863 2017-10-25 05:13:00 That's what I did - uninstall device . since there is no drivers installed, "delete the driver software" doesn't show up. bk T (215)
1440864 2017-10-25 07:47:00 Something to try. Make sure you are connected to the internet.

Open a CMD or power shell (from search) Run as admin. Type in the following exactly ( or copy paste) into the box.

dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

8370

press Enter -- it will start to scan, Note: WILL take a while, sometimes it appears to be stuck, leave it, it will finish ( if you are watching it , it will appear to hang at 100%- leave it till you get the result). If it says the component store is repairable then type in

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

8371

If it reports as no corruption detected, theres some other things to try.

The message looks a bit like a permission problem.

1440866 2017-10-25 08:06:00 Thanks wainuitech. This may give you some clue:

I did 'played' Group Policy to stop Win10 driver update: " Stop Win 10 Driver Update:

1. Get Hardware IDs for the Device, copy it to Notepad.

2. Run - gpedit.msc -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates
-> System -> Device Installation -> Device Installation Restrictions.

3. Double-click "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these devices IDs"

4. Enabled -> Show button

5. Add hardware IDs one by one to Value column."

But I have already disabled it. Have checked and double checked that there's nothing there.

Is there any way to reset Group Policy to default settings?

1440867 2017-10-25 08:21:00 That explains a LOT :) And the wording of the error message - its still blocked someplace.

If you disable any of the windows updates in group policy it can often has a flow on effect somewhere else. If you wanted to disable the updates the bat file posted previously ( some other posts) works a lot better.
