1441949 2017-11-21 19:52:00 I guess but I went a bit over the top buying a GTX 980 when they first came out and it's yet to struggle with anything 3 years on..
That's the idea! I'm so far thinking the GTX1080 for son this time. Not quite top end, but up there in the ranking. The higher end it is, the longer it lasts.

As for axes, we still have husbands splitting axe, over 40 years old, a couple of handles but definitely not the head.

Meaning software? Lightroom 6 CC which is the last version without the monthly subscription. Have played around with Photoshop but I don't really use it that much. I guess fashion people use the liquidfy tool to reshape body parts etc, recolor white hair and cut stray hair and clean up skin blemishes. I print with Epson R2880 that I got used virtually for free with the included 2 packets of paper, it was blocked, managed to unblock it. Using Epson paper profiles, Epson ink and Epson paper but going forward I might prefer quality 3rd party paper because the paper profiles might be a bit more accurate. Such as Red River, Canson, Hahnemuhle. I use the Nik Collection filters as well. Quite nice for the b/w stuff. I also use Lightroom and catalogue my film shots as well, I still occasionally shoot film more so with medium format now but sticking to mostly b/w film which I develop myself in a light proof tank at home and scan and digital edit. I use Lightroom to go thru my shots than take the negatives out all the time. Scanners create huge files if you are talking about TIF files so I just scan in JPEG, I scan at 2300dpi which is the best a flatbed scanner can do. If it was TIF, 35mm film color, would be maybe 50MB a shot, and maybe 250MB for medium format.

I have looked at Macphun Luminar software and Adobe have now gone towards a subscription model. Adobe is still supported until the end of this year and then no camera updates, no fixes etc. I don't intend on getting a new camera anytime soon so will continue using Lightroom until then. If one does use Photoshop as well with Lightroom the $15AU per month isn't that bad.....

I use a older Spyder 2 Express calibrator doesn't do luminance so I reduce my Dell monitor down from 50 to 30 for the brightness then I calibrate it. I have only got a Intel Q8200 Quad 6GB of RAM, I had 4GB upgraded to 8GB with Aliexpress but 2GB went bad, at times it does struggle so it limits extensive Photoshopping. I just use Lightroom then. Had this since December 2008 so the longest I had it. If I were to get a machine today, the sweetspot I think is a Intel i7 8700K or the i5 8600K. Foreseeing a new system in a years time.

And while at it - a bit off topic.
I use a full frame Nikon D600, 24MP. 2 zooms with 1 older zoom which is the mid zoom for people and events which I don't do that often but only when asked LOL. But they just want them online, no prints, that's the trend now. I am looking at a used mirrorless just because it is more portable. M4/3 or APC-S sensor. dSLR is a bit too large for spontaneous images like capturing what meal you had overseas, while you're on the plane or train etc. The full frame mirrorless bodies are a bit smaller but the lenses are just as large as dSLRs. Got all the lenses used on Trademe, great deals to be had and in mint condition. The only new lenses I had was when I had a crop sensor dSLR body and at the time they had crop sensor lenses that was still quite new or the fixed 50 and 85 like 14yrs ago, the fixed lenses are not that much difference if you buy new or used. But I do get them overseas or when people go there, NZ tends to be 20% more generally, some stuff even more so. I was going thru my Lightroom library and looking at my EXIF details re: travel. Interesting because people talk about all the fancy stuff they want to get, I tend to use 35mm, 50mm and 70mm the most which is kinda the most common lens option with pocket cameras and the film day classic 3 lens set-up. Then when I plan a location in advance I might use a 20mm.
