1441940 2017-11-15 09:02:00 I bought my current laptop machine about 5 years ago... a wonderful Toshiba with twin 1 TB hard drives. It just keeps running almost non-stop. My other is dis-assembled and maybe one day I'll re-assemble it. Greg (193)
1441941 2017-11-15 09:07:00 Mines just over seven years old. Bobh (5192)

1441944 2017-11-17 03:02:00 For the most part I rebuild or upgrade too often for my machines to get very old. I often find myself wishing I'd kept one of the old ones though.
My current PC is 2 years old apart from the GPU which is 3 years old - but as a gamer that I guess it doesn't count for this thread.

I was watching the thread with interest and then realised I do have an approximately 8 year old AMD x2 floating about. I don't use it much though, it needs a transplant as the ancient case with it's 8cm fans is just too noisy and it's got a current version of Fedora installed on it. Not sure I can count this one either though as I am yet to think of a use for it.

I'm a PC addict though
1. Gaming PC 2-3 years old
2. Media PC - 6 months old
3. NUC - 2 years old (previous media PC I can't bring myself to sell)
4. Bedroom PC ~ 6 years old (2nd hand)
5. linux test machine ~ 8 years +

yeah I should get rid of 1 or 2 of them, maybe next year.

.

Of course it does. In fact as a gaming PC that's quite old for a GPU. I used to change my GPU every second year.

1441946 2017-11-18 03:30:00 Bits of one of my Pcs are over 10 years old. The case certainly is. It is the old 20 year old axe with 3 new heads and 5 new handles... Tony (4941)

I guess but I went a bit over the top buying a GTX 980 when they first came out and it's yet to struggle with anything 3 years on. Previously I always went cheaper and replaced more often.
Same story with the i7 6700k - more than I needed 2 years ago and still plays all the latest games with ease.

1441948 2017-11-21 11:13:00 I tend to hold on to my computers for a while. We generally have a use for 4 desktops.
The oldest gets used for the least demanding job until the gaming is replaced and then they all get moved down the order with the oldest being sold or given away.
1. HTPC - Core2 e8400 & ATI 5570 (since 2008ish)
2. Wifey's PC - i7 860 & ATI 5860 (since 2010)
3. My PC - i5 4670k & R9 290 (since 2011)
4. Mancave PC - Ryzen 1600 & GTX 1070 (since 2017)

I've haven't swapped much out on them over the years other than adding SSD's to the older ones. Main reason for the Ryzen build was I caught the VR bug.
