| 1441564 | 2017-11-08 09:48:00 | A blue flag with a Kea on it, why are New Zealanders called Kiwi's anyway do you all only come out at night and snuffle around in the undergrowth. At least Kea have a reputation for being fun, clever and cheeky. See... even a bloke like gary67 isn't opposed to it - c'mon people - lets change the blimmin flag! Why the fleck should we live in the dark ages!? I mean really, with all our talent and abilities in this country, why do we have to pander to some aged out-of-date idealistic daft principles? |

The "people" didn't speak - it was just a majority of old-timers who were so blinkered that they couldn't see their way to the toilet. |

| 1441567 | 2017-11-08 19:40:00 | If there's a majority of people who want the flag changed not enough of them voted on it and therefore as a group they can't have cared enough. That's on them not on those that did care enough to vote, the majority of which preferred to keep our current flag over any of the other suggestions. Perhaps if it hadn't been decided for us what designs we got to vote on things may have been different, but there's no way to know that for sure. Personally I'm not strongly attached to the flag so I won't be upset if it does change. I don't get why there's so little support for keeping the union jack on it though, it IS part of the heritage of a large portion of the NZ population. But it seems culture and heritage are one sided arguments. I'd suggest rather than wasting millions of dollars on another such fiasco it would be smarter to wait until another design gains enough public support to make it worth voting on first. If you feel strongly about it put your design forward and start campaigning for it and see how you go. |
