1441151 2017-10-26 20:57:00 The taxing is just beginning. :p

Regional fuel taxes are a bit of a pain. The service stations situated just outside the area affected by the tax will be rubbing their hands in glee as they suddenly have thousands of new customers from just within the affected ares, while the stations just inside the area will be doing the opposite.

Can't really imagine people driving to maybe Kaiwaka, or south to Te Kauwhata to fill up, unless they live close.

You dont honestly believe that this extra tax is somehow put aside for transport infrastructure ?
It just goes into the consolidated fund, just like all the other petrol taxes that were added 'to pay for roading, transport ' etc

We all ready are paying for this.
66.484 cents per litre is collected by the government as fuel excise (National Land Transport Fund) . Where does it stop , $1 a litre in tax, $2 ??
(not sure if thats the current figure)

Phil Geoff stated this new tax was " a good start" . Note those words , its just the start of new road & petrol taxes
Also be aware, that many in this new govt will be inherently anti car, so will be more than happy to keep hammering us with more petrol taxes & road tolls .

Sure, I wont even notice 10c . I do notice 76c a litre in tax

Great news.

Provided the tax goes towards funding roading/transport infrastructure in the area, which I believe it is. Great example of a user pays tax :)

We are already getting roadworks. All the time.
I don't know about you, but everywhere I go, there's roadworks, replacements, upgrades, new bits.

OK, how about this. No tax at all. No income, no GST, no tax on purchases, nothing.
But you build your own roads, you maintain the one you live on, you dispose of your own rubbish - at a place you run and maintain, you perform your own surgery, you teach your own kids schooling, you do the lot. Yourself.
Or pay market rates for others to do this for you.

Ok?

1441157 2017-10-28 00:45:00 My local Mobil petrol stations been trying to push their new discount cards on me. Won't that mean that they can't offer/induce realistic discounts once the road taxes come in? If you save - do they collect sufficient and rapid income? Both petrol companies and local Govt?

What about AT transport and meaningfulness of the current heavily discounted HOP card)s. Could have some kind of adverse effect - Imagine if patronage tripled on AT trains and buses - from car drivers - meaning a massive reduction in Auckland petrol tax revenue.

Might be time to make build another city, say between Auckland Hamilton or Auckland Whangerei, like a Stuy Town (en.wikipedia.org) around NYC. Or a Treasure Island (en.wikipedia.org) like near San Fransisco

1441158 2017-10-28 00:51:00 Never happen, Auckland drivers think only losers travel by bus. Auckland drivers just want other people to take the bus so the roads are clearer for them. I am not to worried about the price rise I will drive out of town and fill up four or so 44 gallon drums. prefect (6291)

Self storage of petrol - not a bad idea. Would it be legal to sell your own petrol in NZ? Invest in a mini petrol tanker with others, buy a ton of petrol out of Auckland. Store it (safely) at home...
