1441631 2017-11-06 08:12:00 Hi I have been been seeing this issue for when playing bluray movies via my bluray player . I use my external harddrive to playback my movies and this happens to some movies not every movie .

So what happens is movie would start playing and then say after 1 minute just come to a complete stop like picture has froze and then rest of movie is not played . I notice external hard drive is on even after picture has froze and the lights do flick after video has froze .

All other dvd and bluray play fine and when i try to play from computer via using VLC , it works fine . I even tried troubleshooting where i tried to play movie on another tv but without bluray player and it seems to work fine meaning can play back video .

Now i just want to see what the views are on my situation .

I have a sony bluray player and firmeware is uptodate . I also have a plasma tv about 7 years old .

Thanks

1441633 2017-11-06 19:56:00 What TV do you have? I have a Sony Bravia and only certain files will play as the tv is restricted - a real pain! Also using an external HDD, the HDD must be either fat32 or exfat, NTFS is no good!

What I do is connect my laptop to the tv and run the external HDD through it - no playback problems at all .

You might have a problem though because your bluray is a Sony and you might have the same restrictions I outlined above .

since it works playing on the PC , the issue is obviously the BR player itself
That BR player could just be lacking grunt, have firmware issues, have issues with USB HD's, not have a fast enough USB interface, not be 100% compatible with the codec/container used on that HD's movies etc etc

You could see if there is a firmware update for it (manufacturers website) , or re-encode those movies in a more compatible format .
Or buy a newer media player that will play them without issues .

a bit of confusing info
BR on a USB HD is (probably)not BR . So what is the format of those files , where did they come from, are they mp4, mkv etc etc
"All other dvd and bluray play fine" ???? did you mean all other BR & DVD on the USB HD, or all other BR/DVD DISKS?

1441635 2017-11-07 20:47:00 It's probably a codec issue as others have said, your device will only support a limited range of codecs. Samsung seems to be a bit better at this, my friends Samsung bluray player has never failed to play anything we throw at it.
And as already mentioned a ripped movie on a hard drive is not a bluray movie, it may have been ripped from a Bluray but it is now just a video file.
