649232 2008-03-14 01:23:00 PCMag Australia named Fujitsu as one of the best notebooks, in reliability as well.

Whats the general consensus with you guys?

649233 2008-03-14 01:26:00 Never had anything , or used anything made by Fujitsu. Speedy Gonzales (78)

649235 2008-03-14 01:55:00 Used them once or twice and from what I saw they were well made - can't say what the components inside are like though. CYaBro (73)
649236 2008-03-14 02:01:00 I'd compare them to Dell.

Only parts are freaking expensive.

Had a top end Lifebook - had everything, including the TV on it.

HDD failed, Optical drive failed, one month out of warranty.

New 160 GB HDD, new DVD RW.

It was a pain in the arse tracking down who to contact to get parts too, the DVD RW was over $460 - gave it to teh poor customer at cost, it took over 2 months to get the part in, as I needed an optical drive to get the lappy up and running after changing the HDD, and it wouldn't boot from USB, and no BIOS updates or anything.

An $800 bill later, it was working again...and it ran nicely - can't say I'd recommend getting one after that performance though. :groan:

Oh, and he got an external (Fujitsu) HDD at the same time as his lappy - that failed too. Replaced with a Seagate, naturally.

Didn't really fill me with confidence.

Get an Asus if your looking for a new notebook.

649238 2008-03-14 02:07:00 I'm a big fan of Asus notebooks; usually my first choice and I've never had any trouble with them.

And we exclusively use IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads here at work, which (other than being a bit fuggly) are really reliable too.

Steer clear of Acer - pretty unreliable, and parts are hard to get.

Hmmm. Kind of what I originally thought.
I found their HDDs crap too.
Never seen anything else of theirs.

But this:

www.pcauthority.com.au

Although I found another site that said how did they get that when the return rate was 29%.

Which is huge in my opinion.

One of my suppliers sells them, never took any notice before.

649241 2008-03-14 09:33:00 Only the expensive Lifebook series is commendable.
The support isn't the best.

My Fujitsu HDD works for 3,5 years, without problems.
