794254 2009-07-23 00:06:00 Hello,

Recently when trying to access a webpage that I've used in the past with no probs, and I've been getting a pop up saying that the page I want to view contains both secure and non-secure items and do I want to view the non-secure ones.

Is this a rogue setting somewhere........something to do with Active X controls?.(currently switched off as I've heard they are a menace).

Also, I'd like to view flash content on the web but need active X switched on.
Is this advisable?

Any help greatly appreciated.

794256 2009-07-23 01:16:00 ActiveX should only be used if you trust the web site implictly.

Like some macros they could cause problems.

In most cases there is nothing to worry about but if you frequent some P2P networks and keep downloading stuff you may get hit with nasties.

Think before you click. Keep your antivirus up to date and use a firewall is the best advice I can give you. Also backup or copy your important files so that if you do get hit you can reformat and restore.

794257 2009-07-23 02:18:00 This message means you are looking at a site which is sent over "HTTPS" but some elements on the page are coming over plain "HTTP"

Often this is caused by advertisements coming from a completely different site or some other item such as a page counter which does not come though a secured connection.

However it _could_ also be some adware on your machine etc putting things on too

There's a setting "Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode" right near the bottom of the Advanced settings. Does clearing that have any effect?

In response to Mushhead, the box was already clear (unchecked).

If getting the pop up is normal, I won't worry about it.Just suprised it started to make an appearance.

794260 2009-07-24 04:09:00 Depends what sites you go to, whether it comes up or not. It wont or shouldnt come up with every site you visit Speedy Gonzales (78)
