2009-07-22 10:04:00 | Generally if it's overheating, it wont start up right away again, it will need time to cool down, ( maybe 5-10 minutes sometimes) before it will restart. What was the laptop sitting on/ Eg: a flat surface, (table / Desk) or on something soft , like a Bed, your legs etc. If it were on something soft, the air intakes underneath can be blocked and cause overheating.

2009-07-23 10:43:00 | Check Event Viewer and see if there are any recent critical errors. The print spooler failed to reopen an existing printer connection because it could not read the configuration information from the registry key S-1-5-18\Printers\Connections. The print spooler could not open the registry key. This can occur if the registry key is corrupt or missing, or if the registry recently became unavailable.

2009-07-23 11:28:00 | Its unlikely that was the event that caused a sudden shutdown. Anything else?

2009-07-23 20:56:00 | Dont know if you could hear much or not,but just before it shut down, did it make any "funny" sounds, like a clicking noise ?? Aslo - what is the OS, XP or Vista ? Check the event log again, and see if that print spool error has reappeared around the time of shutdown.

2009-07-23 21:32:00 | Just to clarify: Did it do a "safe" shut-down, or did the screen simply go black and it began powering itself on again? Right-click on My Computer and go to Properties Click on Advanced, click on Startup & Recovery, then click Settings, then Startup & Recovery Untick "Automatically restart" and hit OK. Next time it reboots you'll get a STOP Error message. There will be some letters and numbers in this format: 0x000000E1 Write down the first in the set of numbers that looks like ^^ and post back. Cheers Chill.
