793829 2009-07-21 23:11:00 Something is knockin out "Zone Alarm". I have 2 laptops & one Desk top all on XP and all with Zone Alarm. Two are on a network via the Internet & one is on domestic Broadband.

Error message comes up that you have incorrect certificate and can not be verified. Zone alarm vanishes on the Task bar and when you look at the Program folder Zonealarm.exe has gone. It will not reinstall because it is still there. (the networks require Zone Alarm).

Solution.
Go to 'msconfig' and remove ZoneLabs from the start up menu.

Boot with Puppy Liux. Mount the system partition and look for the Zone alarm folder, it is all there, not hidden to Linux. Delete the whole folder.

Boot Windows. Open Reg Edit and search for & delete any entry with "ZoneLabs" in it, there are several.

Open Crap Cleaner & clean files & Registry.
Scan with Spybot & antivirus.
Install Firewall.

Very strange

793830 2009-07-22 02:44:00 Its often caused by Malware corrupting the certificates.

Certain other updates can stuff it up too.
I've had 3 this week.

793831 2009-07-22 08:53:00 Your issue is beyond my limited experiences, but it sounds like there are some web sites you should not be returning to, including those that link to the troublesome site.

I use ZoneAlarm myself. Not really sure why, because it is mediocre. If I'm doing torrents I have to close ZA, otherwise it will poke things after a while, despite a clear path being set for the torrent app to use.

793832 2009-07-22 10:12:00 The old paid version was great. Haven't tried the new paid one.
Free has always been mediocre.

If using torrents you have to go into ZA and open ports.

But as I said it's corrupted the certificates - you can google the error and thats what it will tell you along with suggested fixes.

My friend couldn't fix hers, or remove it. She had to take it out the long slow painful way.....

793833 2009-07-22 19:49:00 I have the free one on my spare comp that I use for torrents and I have never had to go into ZA and open ports, I use Utorrent as my client click the link to the torrent I want and it downloads no settings get changed ever gary67 (56)
793834 2009-07-23 02:21:00 Allow the ports through, and forward the port on your router gary.

You'll get much faster D/L speeds:)

793835 2009-07-23 05:50:00 I used it for a while after ditching Norton but I didn't like the way the firewall rules would fill up with programs that had long gone

Trying to view the massive list would cause ZoneAlarm to lag to pieces

I don't know if they have added a feature to remove old entries like Comodo does, but Comodo is so much better, and free, which is why I changed to Comodo and have no reason to change

Although their AntiVirus updater still has issues with using way too much RAM

And that's why I still use Avira AntiVir instead

It does sound like a malware issue to me too, There are a lot of them that will try to disable or break your security software

793836 2009-07-23 06:43:00 Since it's a spare comp I just let it run, speeds are not that bad here 90% of the time so never been a problem. I prefer Comodo but when I built this comp Comodo wouldn't work with my NIC at all gary67 (56)
793837 2009-07-24 09:55:00 I have 2 more computers with corrupted Zone Alarm - Swine Flu ?
I have discovered that Comodo is accepted by the networking prog that was supposed to require Zone Alarm.

I think that there has been a misunderstanding here,as the specs state that they use "Zone Labs technology", and people assume that it needs Zone Alarm :-)

Two computers responded to cleaning & tweaking, but the others had to be wiped & reinstalled.
