793429 2009-07-20 14:33:00 Before signing up to Orcon, I specifically asked if they shape traffic. They said only P2P. Sweet.

I got connected last night. I was downloading at an average of 500KB/s, and then tried downloading some pr0n from rapidshare / megaupload etc and found that I was whizzing through the tubes at 10KB/s. Right now at 1:30 its gone all the way up to 20KB/s.
I rang them up earlier, and after some vehement protests about shaping regular traffic the guy went and talked to someone else, came back and said they're treating these sites as P2P. I raged.

Anyway, I now want to switch to an ISP that has a better attitude towards online file hosts. I need a phone line, at the very least 20GB of bandwidth and decent speeds from rapidshare for a maximum of $100/month in Auckland.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

793430 2009-07-20 14:41:00 Any you ask here will have different opinions for their own reasons.

Not all ISPs supply the service you demand at the price you want to pay.

Not all will deliver what they promise.

793431 2009-07-20 16:45:00 Problem is that they're still not supplying the service I want, regardless of how much I'm willing to pay.

I want ADSL2+ in Auckland without shaping traffic to rapidshare. I understand why they do it, but at $100 a month you'd think I'm paying enough for the privilege.

Rapidshare is a known pirate site so what do you expect?

793434 2009-07-20 21:04:00 And yet i have had regular 200kB/s on the free account? Gobe1 (6290)
793435 2009-07-20 21:36:00 Just as a point of interest, I had the same experience with Orcon on Sunday night. 20 KB's download speed at 8pm. 15 KB's at 1.30 am.
Downloaded it at 11 am Monday at 300 KB's.
It's Telecom's fault. It's the government's fault. It's anyone's fault, but definately not Orcon's fault
Yeah right !
