so I thought that maybe he was asking for din but needed XLR.

You may well be right.

Can someone explain the subtle difference between XRL & DIN?

I still haven't found anything. Not even a 240 5 pin.

Plenty of 180 5 Pins.

How could something so simple be so difficult?

649770 2008-03-17 23:08:00 Find a dinosaur motherboard and whip out the soldering iron. Or some thing like this (www.dse.co.nz) or this (www.jaycar.co.nz) (wow the jaycar website is useless) only in 120 degrees versions? ubergeek85 (131)

Close, but they're 180 degree's not 240 degrees.

I'd thought about an old AT Motherboard too but they're 180 degree as well.

649773 2008-03-18 02:52:00 XLR are professional quality (and price) audio connectors with a locking latch. They are a much better connector, but totally incompatible with DIN. (There is a version which is for mains connection; I assume it can't be used to apply 230 V to a mixer input. :) ).

If the unit can be opened non-destructively, I'd be inclined to replace the input plug with a different connector -- one for which which you can get a mating cord connector.

I may have to do that Graham. I looked closely at that option early on but fear the unit may be gas filled, given its expected operating enviorinment.
