649242 2008-03-14 09:53:00 The Fujitsu Hard drive problem happened when IC manufacturer Cirrus Logic supplied controller chips with faulty encapsulation. Every drive with these chips was going to fail sooner or later. PaulD (232)
649243 2008-03-14 21:08:00 I have had a Fujitsu Lifebook P5010 for about 4 years. I use it for travelling (nice and light - 10.6" screen), and it acts as a backup because my desktop synchronises with it every evening. Every time I take it out to use on my travels, people dribble all over the thing, saying "I need one of those, I am sick to death of carrying my heap around with me".

The only problem I have had has been a battery that would not hold a reasonable charge (after about 3 years usage). I could not obtain a replacement from Fujitsu NZ - they were totally useless - they only seem to know about heat pumps here. I tried Fujitsu Australia who informed me Fujitsu don't make my model of battery any more. I thought this was untrue because the battery was still listed on the Fujitsu website. Eventually I managed to get one via America. I got it through a US based family member - F Amerika would post it to me, but the postage was going to cost much more than the battery. The family member got them to send it to him in the US and he posted it to me for a few dollars.

So, the Lifebook has been high quality, totally reliable (battery problems after three years ain't too bad I guess), is fully featured with slots for everything, and the only problem has been the lousy service of Fujitsu NZ. The problem comes from the fact that I bought the laptop via Amerika - they weren't sold here.
